Pocket books. Don't look at a gifted book's edges.

Your next trip is just a book away. Mahón Airport. February 2024.

Money is no excuse

The time when libraries only had outdated books with yellowing pages is a thing of the past. Nowadays, in most libraries in your city, you can find the latest literary releases. Some of these spaces are even cozy and pleasant, inviting to reading. I'm now thinking of the cloister of the library in my hometown, Inca, or the building of the library where I currently reside in Menorca. Both places are charming.

Forgive me for rambling like an Alicante blind. What I wanted to tell you today is that with the fantastic libraries we have nowadays, money no longer justifies not reading. I encourage you to get your library card if you don't have one yet and visit your nearest library. In this post, I suggest some books that you can ask the librarian for, which are a guaranteed hit.

Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.

Neither is time

You might say, "Okay, Clara, my neighborhood library is wonderful, but I don't have or want to invest the time it takes to go and pick up and return books." Okay, I get it. But then let me tell you about the virtues of the digital library or ebiblioI've talked about it in previous posts.

It allows you to borrow up to 2 books, 2 magazines, 2 newspapers, and 2 comics from your computer, mobile phone, or tablet. As long as they are of different "formats," you can take two of each. At the same time, you can reserve those that are borrowed at that moment. It's super convenient because you don't need to leave your house to borrow or return items. They have the latest bestsellers in books and magazines like Muy Interesante, National Geographic, or El Mueble, which usually cost around 5€ at newsstands. That's what you save.

What to read - March

If I've convinced you and you're eager to start your next book, I recommend looking for the following:

  1. Everything Comes Back - Juan Gómez Jurado. The author of the Red Queen series, Black Wolf, and White King, returns to hook you on the book like a Netflix series. I love the characters of Aura Reyes and Mari Paz. My favorite of the month.
  2. Conversations with friends - Sally Rooney. This writer is a perfect example of love it or hate it. You either hate her or love her. In my case, it's the latter. She has a great ability to tell stories about ordinary people. I think it makes you reflect on today's society. In the end, if you don't like it, you return it, and that's it. That's the good thing about the library.
  3. The Quantum Revolution - Alberto Casas. Okay, I'm a freak. But this book on quantum physics seemed spectacular to me. It makes simple and understandable, nothing more and nothing less than, the principles of quantum physics. If you like science in general, it's a must-read.

So whether with physical books or in digital format, borrowed from the library or bought, start your next book today.. I've never regretted investing time in reading a book. I also don't hesitate to put a book aside if it doesn't convince me. Anyway, read. I'm sure it helps us grow and not stagnate. And if you have a favorite that hasn't been mentioned in any of my posts, pass on the recommendation. There's always room on my bedside table for another pending book.

A library in the midst of a community is a cross between an emergency exit, a life raft, and a festival. They are cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of imagination.

See you soon and happy reading!
