Once upon a summer...
I usually love summer. That time of the year when, even if you don't have many vacations, as is my case, you make the most of it. The late sunsets and the cool evenings (or what used to be cool evenings, hello climate change!) urge you to squeeze every minute of the day.
It's true that these past scorching weeks have made me reconsider my love for this season. But nonetheless, it's an ideal moment to grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, and with a book under your arm, head to the nearest green area, river, or beach. Nowadays, with so many books published every day, it's challenging to choose. But don't worry, in this post, I'll give you some recommendations that, like grandma's dishes, never fail.
If we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
...stuck to a book
Stick to the right book , and just like with the best songs, you can travel to wonderful places and times. Regardless of whether it's a novel, a comic, or an essay, you can surely gain something from it. Most books encourage you to bring out the best in you. At least, that's how it works for me. Whether it's aiming to acquire characteristics we detect in the characters we like or unconsciously reviving a forgotten hobby or project.
Reading makes us better people, or so I believe. And as if that weren't enough, studies studies have shown that it activates our emotional intelligence and delays dementia. With life expectancy reaching historic records, it's in our best interest to grow old with a clear mind. After all, what are we without our memories? Yes, today I'm feeling philosophical. Apologies for the intensity.
What to read - july
I'll include some recommendations for these months of beach and sunshine. You can find more previous posts from Pocket Books..
For suspense:
- The crystal cuckoo by Javier Castillo (This one is my favorite of the month! You won't be able to put it down.)
For romance:
- It ends with us by Colleen Hoover (It won't win the Nobel Prize in literature, but it flew by for me.)
Self-knowledge:
- "Pleased to Meet Myself" by Borja Vilaseca. (It gave me food for thought. I'm convinced that success comes from knowing oneself better, and this book paves the way.)
Don't wait any longer and visit your favorite neighborhood bookstore to start your next book today. Summer is less summer without a handful of books to read and have read.
I consider television very educational. Every time someone turns it on, I go into another room and read a book.
Groucho Marx
See you soon and happy reading!
